A pilot and passenger were killed after a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) aircraft crashed in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.
In a statement released on Thursday evening, KWS said the two-seater Husky aircraft with registration number 5Y-KWL crashed immediately after take-off from Nanyuki Civil Airport.
“The aircraft which is under the National Air Support Department had just completed a routine patrol at Solio Rhino Sanctuary and was enroute to Meru National Park,” the statement reads.
At the time of publishing this article, a KWS team in collaboration with Mountain Rescue were on the ground for evacuation operations.
The cause of the crash is yet to be established but investigations are underway.
